Talking All About Tecoustics

CHUM HOSPITAL - BUILDING B1 - MONTREAL, QC - P3 PROJECT

I worked with Tecoustics over the span of 3 years on the CHUM mega-hospital project in Montreal, Quebec. With a career long background in complex project delivery, and latterly with Lean Methodologies and construction innovation, I tasked Tecoustics with extremely difficult site-specific engineering challenges together with tight timescales on an expansive scope of works. This included, thermal, seismic, and vibration control, coupled with structural support of large MEP equipment and distribution systems, in and out of the enormous thermal plantroom placed on top of one of the clinical buildings, known as B1.

The control of such large rotating plant and active equipment above clinically sensitive hospital facilities was vitally important to the success of the project.

Highlighting the main risers in building B1, we needed to implement a robust thermal expansion, seismic and vibration control system, developed from a 3D model for integration into the BIM, allowing suitable construction tolerances for the fast-paced schedule for a right-first-time installation. This also had to include ergonomic considerations given the difficulty of installing these large systems into tight access spaces.

Tecoustics execution of design, 3D coordination, fabrication, supply, installation support and inspection/certification services were second to none. Throughout my career, I have not come across such an excellent and innovative execution, overcoming all obstacles on such a complex construction scheme from an engineering and fabrication firm without guidance.

CHUM HOSPITAL - BUILDING D - MONTREAL, QC - P3 PROJECT

I had the pleasure of working with Tecoustics over the course of 3 years at the CHUM Hospital in Montreal, Quebec.  The experience I gained over my career with large mechanical and self-delivery contractors in the UK and Canada allows me to devise complex deliverables for sub-contractors and suppliers to meet aggressive timelines and complexities that exist on large scale projects.  Tecoustics scope of work included Vibration Control of Large Medical Gas Skids, Design of fully populated Structural Pump Modules complete with Vibration Control/Seismic/Flex, Structural Steel design for MEP piping, a full large scale Thermal Analysis on all the major piping in the Level 6 Plantroom in Building D above the surgical suites, and additionally the Thermal Analysis of the Riser Systems Running from the underground plantrooms to the upper plantroom located on Level 22.  Tecoustics utilized 3D Scanning and Photogrammetry to get additional Structural Steel Supports designed and installed in highly congested space, and specialty software and engineering prowess to develop the as-built Thermal Analysis 3D Model.

Tecoustics offered an extremely high level of service and the engineering solutions delivered for their extremely complex scope benefited major aspects of the successful delivery of Building D.  I would highly recommend the Tecoustics team for any complex integrated major construction project.

It is with pleasure that I provide this letter of reference attesting to the strong  capabilities you and the Tecoustics team bring to solving complex problems in noise and vibration control.

Since 2004 I have engaged with Tecoustics on a number of projects where noise and vibration control solutions were required in a timely and cost-effective manner. This has ranged from small forensic investigations to large mechanical equipment installations in acoustically-critical environments. Most recently, Tecoustics has been instrumental in assisting with noise control for a large cogeneration system located above an office space, where our client was at risk of significant financial losses due to noise disturbances from a poor vibration control installation. Tecoustics responded in a timely and professional manner and were able to provide a solution that eliminated the noise problem on schedule and without any additional losses to the client.

Your team at Tecoustics has always been a great asset to our projects and carries out its work with the utmost integrity. I would not hesitate to involve the team in future work and look forward to the opportunities to solve more complex problems in the future.

BRENTWOOD TOWN CENTRE - TOWER 3, BURNABY, BC - TUNED MASS DAMPER

It was a pleasure working with Tecoustics through the design – fabrication – installation – and testing of Tuned Mass Damper at Brentwood Tower 3. Tecoustics have proven excellent attention to detail with the contractors’ requirements with regards to schedule, coordination with other subcontractors, capacity limits of GC supplied tower crane. The job was well planned and executed ahead of schedule, a job well done!
